Meet Jason Wheeler

Musculoskeletal & Consultant Physiotherapist

First Choice Spinal & Sports Physiotherapy is a local, family-owned practice in the Blue Mountains, led by APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist Jason Wheeler. We deliver a personal, unhurried service across our Lawson and Warrimoo clinics — putting your needs, and an accurate diagnosis, first.

More about First Choice Physiotherapy →

Working in private practice since 2006, Jason gained deep experience in what patients really need. He grew disillusioned with the high-volume model common in many clinics — where patients can feel like a number rather than a person. He built First Choice around the opposite: unhurried appointments and a treatment plan tailored to you, not a production line.

Jason holds the highest training, completing his Master of Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal) at the University of Queensland in 2017, after his Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) at the University of Sydney in 2006. He is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association as a Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, a member of the Australian College of Physiotherapists, and was a physiotherapist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

  • Pain when moving or loading the joint (in time, even at rest or at night)
  • Joint stiffness and trouble starting your day
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Heat and swelling at the joint
  • Muscle tightness & difficulty moving around

It caters for anyone who has had a hip or knee joint problem that's led them to a healthcare provider.

Myths & facts about osteoarthritis

Myth: the degree of OA predicts pain and disability.

Scans are poorly related to pain and disability.

Myth: pain equals joint damage.

Pain does not equal damage and isn't a reliable indicator of joint condition.

Myth: exercise is dangerous for an OA joint.

Exercise is safe and actually helps people with OA.

Myth: rest is best for OA.

Rest and avoiding movement makes pain worse.
